Towing with an ‘A‘ frame

Towing an automobile with an ‘A’ frame is generally limited to professional applications, for example towing a little SUV behind a recreational vehicle.

This kind of towing involves the towed lorry having all its wheels on the road and being connected to the tow automobile’s tow bar by a triangular shaped metal drawbar.

While this form of towing may appear attractive, there is a detailed set of technical requirements” A” frame towing guide (PDF, 244 KB) that needs to be adhered to.

These rules relate specifically to Dublin lorries. There might be variations in other states so you should inspect the pertinent legislation in the state or area in which you are operating.

Not all vehicles can be pulled in this way.

Some lorries, due to their design, threat comprehensive driveline damage so it is very important to always consult the producer about its viability for the application.
